If you have ever been to one of my nutrition seminars or heard me speak about food, you have heard me say that variety is key! Well, the same holds true for your fitness programming.
So how do you know if you’re getting a good enough variety in your training? It always challenges you, no matter how long you’ve been training!! This is how you avoid that dreaded fitness plateau–diversify your training program! Are you bored with your workout? Are you doing the same moves day after day, week after week, month after month? You need to add some variety!
If you have ever been to one of my nutrition seminars or heard me speak about food, you have heard me say that variety is key! Well, the same holds true for your fitness programming.
As a trainer and a coach, I believe that having variety and diversity in your training program–while always staying in check with your fundamentals, such as Core–yields the best results! Don’t get me wrong, your training program should still be structured, purposeful, and efficient…but keep it spicy!
As a family, we have found that keeping a variety of fun and challenging activities & sports on our calendar keeps us motivated and constantly changing our “routines.” Mike and I weight train, compete in triathlons, road races, obstacle course races, and have many other active hobbies (PLUS taking part in all the classes that we teach)! Our boys enjoy and compete in the same activities as us while adding their seasonal sports such as basketball, baseball, and golf in the mix. This programming allows us to continuously meet our fitness goals, while also having fun and pushing us to create new goals. Within a one week span, you will see Mike and me do everything from yoga to deadlifts to running. I’m also a big believer in dance, which is my main passion and my very favorite form of fitness. Dance has tons of variety within itself! You’re not performing the same repetitive motions that many other forms of cardio rely on.

You will hear many of the clients that have been with us for many years say that they are still challenged every time they train. This doesn’t mean that they are lacking in progress or results…it simply means that we keep everything fresh! This could mean doing something that they have never done before, or switching it up and doing the same thing in a new and exciting way.
Variety is KEY. This is why we have such a variety of classes from Yoga to Dance to Heavy Strength classes. If you have been sitting on the fence, wanting to try Yoga or OCR, but you’ve never done it before…DO IT!!!
Everything we offer at our studio is a reflection of our own personal workouts and programming philosophies. Variety is KEY. This is why we have such a variety of classes from Yoga to Dance to Heavy Strength classes. If you have been sitting on the fence, wanting to try Yoga or OCR, but you’ve never done it before…DO IT!!! What are you waiting for? Staying in your comfort zone is the enemy of variety. Branch out and try new things! As Mike mentioned in an earlier blog, variety in training helps avoid overuse in muscles and unnecessary injuries. Maintain variety within your workout regimen and consistency in fundamental work–dot all the I’s and cross all the t’s in your fitness–the results will come!
